Ivan Turok is Professor of Urban Economic Development at the University of Glasgow and Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town. He is an expert adviser on cities and neighbourhoods to the UK Department of Communities and Local Government; on regional development to the European Commission; and on urban employment issues to the OECD and United Nations.

Ivan has also served on strategic committees for Glasgow city and Strathclyde region in Scotland, and is currently on secondment to help set up an African Centre for Cities in South Africa. He has researched and published over 100 papers, books and reports on city and regional development, urban regeneration and policy evaluation. He is a co-author of The State of English Cities (ODPM, 2006); Changing Cities: Rethinking Urban Competitiveness, Cohesion and Governance (Palgrave, 2005); Twin Track Cities (Pergamon, 2004), and The Coherence of EU Regional Policy (Jessica Kingsley, 1997). He has degrees in Economics, Geography and Planning.
