I invite delegates from around the country and abroad to join us in Melbourne for the 6th National Housing Conference. This year’s theme Housing in a new era: building the connections signifies the importance of home to our social, economic, spiritual and physical well-being. A home is more than just a place to live; it connects us to people and the community, it keeps us safe, and it sustains us through tough times. Housing affordability, homelessness, climate change and the global economic downturn are all leading the political agenda. With a significant level of government investment in social housing and homelessness, there has never been a more critical time for the government and the private and not-for-profit sectors to work together. With insights into the possibilities of affordable housing, the conference will highlight what can be achieved and barriers to overcome. Delegates will also have the opportunity to visit innovative housing developments, featuring Victorian Office of Housing partnerships with community housing providers, residents, the private sector and non-government organisations. The conference is an ideal setting for housing industry professionals and interested parties to further their understanding, exchange ideas and develop professional networks. Spring in Melbourne is a festive and vibrant time. Don’t forget to take time out to soak up some of the city’s unique culture and history. I hope you enjoy the conference and look forward to a new era for housing. |
